Phoenix Counselling, Cornwall

Based in Truro, Cornwall, I provide an integrative therapy service and cover a wide range of issues, using the following therapy techniques:

Person-Centred Therapy (PCT)
PCT focuses on the "here and now", meaning it explores the thoughts and feelings a situation causes us today, rather than how it made us feel in the past. Carl Rogers, its founder, believed a person can achieve Self-Actualisation where six Core Conditions were present.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is widely used by the NHS because of its goal orientated approach and because of the longer-term effectiveness usually achieved over a minimum amount of therapy sessions. It focuses on the "here and now" and how our thoughts, feelings, behaviours and physiology relate to one another in particular circumstances. The aim is to change the thought to change the behaviour.

Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy is focused on the conscious and unconscious mind, the relationship between the Id, the Ego and Superego, and the relationship between client and the therapist. Psychodynamic therapy is generally longer term and more intense than perhaps PCT and CBT.

As I am an integrative therapist, therapy plans do not necessarily have to be strictly one theory or another, but can be made up of relevant parts best suited to the client. The sessions are your time to be heard and validated in a confidential setting where you can expect to be accepted for being you.
